COAL CITY
Coal City is a photographic exploration of Mongolia’s coal dependence and the efforts of a local NGO working to protect people and the environment from its impacts. The project traces the ubiquity of coal across daily life, from families burning it for heat in their gers to large urban plants powering apartment blocks, revealing how deeply embedded it is in both survival and infrastructure. It examines the complexity of transitioning away from coal, shaped by unreliable electricity and high costs, while confronting the detrimental human health and climate impacts of continued dependence. The project is in progress right now, and select images are previewed below!
